Honoring Our Heros

Veterans’ Military Memorial

The Veterans’ Military Memorial is a finely handcrafted tribute honoring 320 individuals connected to our Oswego community who served in the United States Armed Forces. Each name is displayed on its own individual plaque, representing lives of courage, sacrifice, and service.

At this time, much about the memorial’s origins remains a mystery. We do not yet know when it was established, who commissioned or created it, or the full story behind how the 320 names were selected. What we do know is that it was built with care and intention, and it reflects a deep respect for those who served our nation.

Through dedicated research efforts led by museum member Karen, with additional research by Kris Redburn, we have carefully identified and documented the individuals named on the memorial. This work continues as we seek to uncover more about the memorial’s history and the stories of the veterans it honors.

The Oswego Historical Society Museum and Genealogy Center is committed to preserving this meaningful piece of local heritage. By placing the memorial on public display within our military exhibit area, we hope to both protect it and invite community participation. We believe that someone in our community may hold valuable knowledge about its creation and purpose, and we welcome all information that can help us complete this historical puzzle.

If you have memories, photographs, documents, or stories related to this memorial or the individuals listed, we encourage you to contact us. Together, we can ensure that this tribute continues to honor our veterans with the dignity and historical context they deserve.

For more information or to contribute to this research, please contact the museum or visit us during open hours.
